Why a five-year journey?
Because some experiences cannot be compressed into a single journey. Naora follows the natural rhythm of the seasons, moving through each region at the right moment, not as a one-off passage, but as a continuous flow across the year. With your membership, you have access to this entire journey, allowing you to join where it fits your life, step off when needed, and return again in another region or season.
Some choose shorter coastal moments. Others join for longer crossings. The structure is designed to give you freedom, not a fixed itinerary. It builds on years at sea. Earlier expeditions with Sueño and Discovery shaped the way we move, the places we return to, and the rhythm we follow today. Each leg carries its own pace and character, but together they form one continuous journey, one you can enter, leave and rejoin, throughout the year.
Do I need sailing experience?
No experience is required. You are guided into everything naturally, at your own pace. Some arrive with experience, many don’t. What matters is the willingness to step into it. Being comfortable in the water is important, as much of life on board naturally takes place around and in the sea. During your time on board, you receive a personal logbook, allowing you to capture the experience as it unfolds, and to gain insight into the different aspects of sailing along the way. For those who wish, this can later serve as a reference when working toward official certifications.
Do I need to plan anything myself?
Only your journey to the starting point. From the moment you arrive, everything else is taken care of allowing you to fully step into the experience. For your own peace of mind, we recommend arranging comprehensive international travel insurance to cover personal circumstances such as medical needs, cancellations, or trip interruptions.
What is included on board?
Everything essential is taken care of, from crew to cuisine. A private chef, full provisioning, and all onboard experiences are included. From freshly prepared meals to the moments you share at sea, it’s all part of the experience. Life on board is generously catered throughout the day, with three substantial meals, morning, midday, and evening, as well as lighter moments in between, including a late-morning bite, an afternoon refreshment, and evening snacks. Meals are tailored with care, taking into account personal preferences and dietary requirements. All standard operating costs such as fuel for normal use, clearance fees, and local taxes are covered, along with full access to all water sports and equipment onboard. For flexibility, a shared onboard fund (“board cash”) is arranged at the start of each journey, typically used for items such as alcohol or exceptional expenses. Optional shore excursions, especially those chosen individually, remain at your own discretion. A dedicated crew member ensures that every detail of daily life is handled seamlessly, allowing you to fully unwind.
How do I get from the airport to the boat?
Each boarding location is selected with accessibility in mind. Upon confirmation, you’ll receive clear guidance, including recommended airports, transfers, and simple routes to the vessel. In the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and select parts of Southeast Asia, we also arrange transfers directly to the yacht, making your arrival as seamless as possible. For Offshore and Ocean Explorer members, a personal travel concierge is included, assisting you with every aspect of your journey and ensuring everything is well coordinated from departure to arrival.
Is this a charter?
No. Naora is not a charter. It is a private membership granting access to a shared journey, a curated route, and a community, designed to be experienced over time, not booked as a one-off trip.
Who is behind Naora?
Naora is shaped by a Belgian founding team with over two decades at sea, and by lives lived far beyond one place. Sven has spent more than half of his life abroad, shaped by the ocean and the movement that comes with it. This forms the foundation of Naora, not just as a sailing project, but as a way of moving through the world. What began with competitive sailing and long-distance expeditions has been refined over time, evolving into something more considered. Earlier journeys, including Discovery and Sueño, across the Mediterranean and Caribbean, have shaped the rhythm, the places we return to, and the way the experience is held today. Its roots lie in Antwerp, along the Scheldt, a tidal river where timing, movement, and respect for the water are not learned, but lived. Behind Naora is a team shaped by real experience. From professional sailing and global yacht deliveries to certified lifesaving and CMAS dive instruction, everything is grounded in practice, not theory.
How self-sufficient is life on board?
Life on board is designed to be comfortably self-sufficient, allowing us to remain independent and operate far beyond the usual limits. We produce our own drinking water through redundant watermakers, and generate electricity through a combination of solar energy and onboard systems, ensuring continuous, reliable power. This level of independence allows us to spend more time in remote places, without relying on marinas or infrastructure. At the same time, life on board remains considered and well provisioned with fresh ingredients, herbs grown on board, and locally sourced produce whenever we come ashore. Freshly caught fish often becomes part of the experience, while other ingredients are carefully selected along the way. It’s a balance between independence and comfort, allowing the journey to feel both free and well held.
Who ensures safety on board?
Safety is managed by a fully certified crew. All members of the team hold professional maritime certifications, including STCW training, and we operate with onboard safety systems, medical readiness, and extensive experience in offshore conditions. All safety equipment is inspected annually and fully certified, ensuring compliance at all times. The vessel is equipped with multiple life rafts and satellite communication systems, allowing for reliable connectivity even in remote regions. We are also fully insured for onboard operations and unforeseen incidents. Certain journeys are classified as true offshore passages. During these crossings, assistance may require more time to reach the vessel due to the remote nature of the route. These segments are clearly indicated in advance.
Is piracy a concern along the route?
Piracy is not a concern along the regions we operate in. The journey is carefully routed through safe and established passages, with continuous monitoring of regional conditions. We simply do not enter areas where any risk is present. With decades of experience at sea, safety is built into every decision we make along the way.
What kind of people join Naora?
What language is spoken on board?
English is the primary language on board. Depending on the group, French, Dutch, German, and Spanish are often spoken as well, creating a naturally international environment.
Is membership limited?
Yes, intentionally. We keep the circle small to preserve the experience, the atmosphere, and the connections on board.
How private is the experience?
Privacy is fundamental. From the people on board to the places we anchor, everything is designed to feel discreet, calm, and removed from the outside world. We are intentionally selective in what we share. No identifiable images or footage of our members are published without consent. This allows everyone on board to fully relax into the experience, knowing it remains private, and truly their own.
How flexible is joining and leaving the journey?
You step in and out at selected moments along the route. Each segment is designed to align with real life, allowing you to join where it fits, without committing to the entire journey. Most stays naturally follow a weekly rhythm, but flexibility remains part of the experience. Where possible, and depending on location, shorter or longer stays can be arranged, especially when access to nearby harbours or airports allows it.
