Connected Everywhere: How The Naora ESIM Makes The Offshore Life Headache-Free From The Moment You Board Discovery

My name is Antony. I am Naora’s co-founder, and I work with our shore team on the logistics of the circumnavigation: the permits, the provisioning, the boarding transfers, the pre-departure packages. Sven, our founder and captain, plans every weather window and sails every leg himself. Between the two of us, we know how much preparation goes into making an arrival feel simple. One problem that deserves more attention than it usually receives is not the permit or the provisioning. It is the SIM card.

The local SIM card that the traveller needs at the airport in a country they have never been to, in the language of the country they do not speak, from the provider whose data package terms are written in the fine print that the airport queue does not allow the time to read. The SIM card problem is the first problem of every international trip and the last problem that anyone thinks to solve before the trip begins.

On the Naora circumnavigation, the SIM card problem does not exist. Every member who boards Discovery, our 2025 Lagoon Eighty2, receives the Naora eSIM as part of their membership. One eSIM. One global data pool. Every country on the circumnavigation route. From the moment the member boards in Bodrum to the moment they disembark after the final leg, connectivity is available wherever the local network reaches: on the boat near shore, on the shore excursion, in the market at Banda Naira, in the taxi from the Aqaba airport to the marina, on the overnight in Petra, on the walk through Stone Town in Zanzibar. The eSIM travels with the member. The data pool is global. The headache does not exist.

Why This Matters More Than It Sounds

The person who has not managed the SIM card problem across forty-five countries in five years may read the eSIM inclusion as a minor convenience, the small benefit in the list of membership inclusions that follows the offshore sailing life and the dive programme and the Long Table and the Circle. It is not a minor convenience. It is the removal of the friction that international travel consistently produces in the first hour of every new country and that the circumnavigation, without the Naora eSIM, would produce forty-five times across the five years of the programme.

The member who boards Discover in Bodrum and disembarks in the Seychelles and boards again in Sri Lanka and disembarks in Langkawi and boards in the Banda Sea is the member who crosses borders outside the legs, in the airports and the hotels and the shore transfers that connect the boarding and the disembarkation. Without the Naora eSIM, each crossing is the SIM card problem in the new language at the new airport in the new country.

With the Naora eSIM, each crossing is the crossing. The phone works. The map works. The taxi app works. The family message goes through. The headache does not materialise. We arranged it with the shore team before the member arrived at the airport.

Connected On The Shore Excursion

The offshore sailing life on Discovery is the life of the passage and the anchorage and the dive and the Long Table. The shore excursion is the life of the place the anchorage reached: the Banda Naira market at five-thirty, the Wadi Rum overnight from Aqaba, the Stone Town walk in Zanzibar, the Petra day from the Jordan anchorage, the coffee ceremony in Djibouti, the Langkawi mamak stall at dawn. The shore excursion is the cultural immersion that the circumnavigation makes possible at the depth that the offshore arrival produces.

The Naora eSIM works on the shore excursion. Not the patchy roaming of the home SIM card attempting the local network at the international rate. The Naora global data pool on the local network at the coverage quality the local network provides. The member in the Banda Naira market can photograph the spice vendor and send it to their family in the moment they are in it.

The member on the Wadi Rum overnight can share the sunrise wherever there is a signal, or send it when coverage returns. The member walking Stone Town in Zanzibar can navigate the medina without the paper map and without the local SIM card that the Zanzibar airport kiosk was selling in the queue that was forty minutes long when the flight landed. The eSIM is there. No new package to choose. No new queue to join.

The Offline Dimension

There is a specific irony in the Naora connectivity article. The offshore sailing life on Discovery is the offshore sailing life, the life where mobile coverage does not exist 300 Nm from the nearest coast and where the absence of connectivity is not the problem to be solved but the specific quality of the offshore passage that the Naora programme was built around. The Atlantic crossing is the twenty-two days of the Atlantic. The connectivity during those twenty-two days is the satellite navigation and the emergency communication and the weather routing data that the passage requires. It is not the inbox.

The Naora eSIM is the connectivity for the parts of the circumnavigation that are not the offshore passage. The boarding morning. The shore excursion. The overnight in Petra. The travel between the legs. The days in the port city before Discovery departs. For these parts of the circumnavigation, connectivity is the practical requirement: the navigation, the family communication, the banking, the logistics coordination with me and the shore team. The eSIM handles this requirement across the route, without the member needing to choose a new package at every border. The Atlantic crossing solves the inbox problem by removing the inbox from the available options. The eSIM takes care of the connected days, wherever local coverage allows, without the friction that the forty-five countries would otherwise produce forty-five times.

Both are the headache-free version of the connectivity question. One removes it. The other solves it. Together they produce the member who is connected when the connection serves the experience and disconnected when the disconnection is the experience. That is the correct relationship with connectivity. We have made the arrangements with our shore team. It is included in the membership.

Read about everything else that is included in the Naora membership. The connectivity is one line in the inclusions list. It is the line that removes forty-five SIM card queues from the five years of the circumnavigation.
