The Eighty2 departs Bodrum on a specific date in May 2027. Not approximately May 2027. Not when the conditions are favourable and the booking is confirmed and the circumstances align in the way that the person who has been postponing the decision has been waiting for them to align.
A specific date. The date was determined by the sailing seasons, the trade wind windows, the Panama Canal transit slot, and the five-year sequence of passages and anchorages that the circumnavigation requires to run correctly from start to finish. The date is not flexible in the way that the decision about whether to be on the boat is flexible. The boat leaves on time.
This is the most concrete thing I can tell you about the Naora voyage. Everything else, the route, the community, the diving programme, the quality of the offshore experience, the specific transformation that the passage and the anchorage and the people produce, is the description of what happens after the boat leaves.
The description is accurate. It is also, until you are on the boat, abstract. The departure date is concrete. May 2027. The Aegean. The Mediterranean opener. The boat that has been in preparation for years leaves the harbour and begins the five-year circumnavigation that ends in January 2032.

What the Departure Date Does to the Decision
The departure date converts the abstract intention into the concrete question. Not: do I want to do this at some point? But: do I want to be on this boat on this date? The second question is answerable in a way the first is not. The first question can be deferred indefinitely because the some point never arrives as a deadline. The second question has a deadline built into it, not as pressure but as the natural consequence of the boat being a real boat with a real departure date rather than an idea that waits for the decision to crystallise.
The legs fill in the order that the conversations happen. The person who confirms their berth in 2025 has the leg dates they chose. The person who confirms in 2026 has the dates that remain. The person who decides in 2027 that this is the year has the legs that are available in 2027. The boat does not wait.
The route does not pause while the person who has been going to decide next year decides. The Atlantic crossing happens once in the Naora circumnavigation. The Pacific passage from the Galapagos to the Marquesas happens once. The Coral Triangle happens once. Each of these is available until it is not.
The question is not whether you want to be on the boat. You already know the answer to that. The question is whether you are going to be on the boat that leaves on time, or whether you are going to be the person who watches it go from the harbour and who has the specific conversation with themselves about what they were waiting for. The conversation is thirty minutes. The departure is May 2027.
