What Your Partner Needs to Know Before You Book a Naora Leg

Most of the conversations on Calendly involve one person. Most of the decisions to book involve two. The partner who is not on the call has a version of the Naora voyage in their mind that is assembled from the website and the description and the specific filter of the person who loves them and who is clearly excited about this thing, and the version assembled from these sources is often either more dramatic than the reality or less specific than it needs to be to produce the conversation that allows the booking to happen with both people at ease rather than one person enthusiastic and one person uncertain.

Here is the version for the partner who is not on the call.

What the Naora Leg Actually Is

The Naora leg is a section of a five-year sailing circumnavigation on a 24-metre catamaran with twelve members and a professional crew of four. The legs range from one week to four weeks. The boat is well-equipped, professionally maintained, and skippered by an experienced offshore captain. The crew includes a dive instructor, a chef, and experienced sailors.

The safety standards are the standards of the professional offshore operation. The risks are the risks of the offshore sailing life, which are real, managed, and significantly lower than the dramatic versions of them that the imagination of the person who has not been offshore tends to produce.

The person coming aboard will sleep in a comfortable private cabin, eat well-cooked food three times a day, have access to the water sports programme and the diving and the land visits at every anchorage. They will also stand watches, participate in the passage, and be in conditions that the resort does not produce. This is the specific quality of the experience that your partner is coming for. It is not a risk. It is the point.

Partners are welcome on the Naora legs. Many of the finest offshore experiences the Naora voyage produces happen between two people who came aboard together: the first whale shark, the Pacific sunrise, the last evening in the bay before the return to the harbour.

The couple who shared the Naora leg consistently describes it as the travel experience that reminded them of who they are when the domestic routine is not structuring every interaction between them. The offshore context removes the routine and replaces it with the shared experience that the routine was preventing. Several couples have described the Naora leg as the best thing they have done together. None of them described it as a holiday in the conventional sense.

The conversation to understand the leg in detail is available on Calendly. Partners are welcome to be on the call. The thirty minutes is for both of you.
