The Complete Insurance Picture: What the Boat Covers, What You Need to Arrange, and How We Guide You Through Both

The insurance picture for the Naora member has several layers and the Naora team guides every member through all of them before the first leg. Not because the insurance is complicated, it is not, once the layers are clearly described, but because the person who boards without the complete picture is the person who discovers the gap at the moment the gap matters. The pre-boarding insurance guidance is twenty minutes of the Naora team’s time and the member’s time, and it produces the clear, complete picture of what is covered, what needs to be added, and what is already covered and does not need to be duplicated.

Here is the complete picture in summary form.

What the boat covers: full civil liability, passenger and crew coverage for the duration of the leg, and theft cover for personal belongings aboard to the policy’s specified limits. The member who boards the Eighty2 is covered under the vessel’s insurance for the incidents that occur in the context of the boat’s operation.

What the member arranges: international travel insurance valid for sailing and water sports, with hospitalisation and medical extension for the evacuation costs that the offshore locations require. DAN Silver Sport or Gold for every member who enters the water is mandatory for divers and freedivers, strongly recommended for snorkellers.

Cancellation insurance to protect the leg fee in the scenarios that prevent the member from boarding after the booking is confirmed.

What Is Not Worth Adding

Personal liability insurance that duplicates the passenger coverage on the boat’s policy: not necessary. Rental car coverage for a leg that involves no rental cars: not relevant. The double insurance that the travel insurance industry bundles into the comprehensive package regardless of the specific trip’s requirements: worth checking before paying for it.

The Naora guidance specifically identifies the coverage that the standard travel insurance package includes but that the offshore sailing leg does not require, so that the member is paying for the coverage that protects them rather than the coverage that the package contains.

The goal of the pre-boarding insurance guidance is the member who boards the Eighty2 with the complete coverage for the specific risks of the offshore sailing life and without the gaps or the unnecessary duplication that the insurance conversation prevents. We do this for every member before every first leg.

We do it because we know from experience that the uncovered event at the wrong time is the event that defines the member’s experience of the Naora programme rather than the offshore sailing life the programme is built to provide.
