Last week we were in Cannes. The Cannes Yachting Festival from 8 to 13 September 2026, Port Canto, the French Riviera in the specific light of the September Mediterranean that makes the boats look even better than they are and the people around them more animated than they would be anywhere else. Seven hundred boats. Over six hundred exhibitors. Fifty thousand visitors in six days. The most important sailing show in Europe and the one that the offshore sailing community uses as the annual confirmation of the direction the industry is heading.
We were there as guests of Lagoon. Not as visitors, as guests. The distinction matters. The visitor walks the pontoons and looks at the boats from the dock. The guest walks the pontoons with the people who built the boats and the people who sail them and the people who have spent careers understanding what the offshore sailing life requires from the vessel that carries it. We were with the Lagoon team, the service team, the global dealer network, the people who know the catamaran range from the 38 to the flagship Eighty 2 in the complete depth of the people who have been building and selling and supporting these boats for decades. A day in Cannes with the people who know the boats is worth more than a month of the specification sheets.

The Lagoon Stand at Port Canto
Seven boats in the water. The Lagoon 38, the 43, the world premiere of the new Lagoon 47, the 55, the 60, the Sixty 5, and the flagship Eighty 2. The full range from the entry point to the summit, in the Mediterranean in September, in the water where you can board them and feel them and stand on the deck and understand in the way that the specification sheet cannot communicate what the boat is like when the boat is your home for the offshore sailing life.
The world premiere of the Lagoon 47 was the moment of the show for me. The 47 was developed directly from the feedback of the owners and the dealers — the people who live aboard the Lagoon range and who know from the daily experience of the offshore sailing life what the boat does well and what it could do better. The 47 is the answer to that feedback: the comfort and the livability of the offshore catamaran refined through the specific knowledge of the people who have been in the offshore sailing life long enough to know what refinement requires. I walked the 47. I know what I was looking for. What I found confirmed what the Lagoon team had been telling us.
What the Service Team Confirms That the Brochure Does Not
The service team was there. Not the sales team but the service team. The people who are called when the watermaker fails in the Raja Ampat and when the sail needs the repair in the Azores and when the chartplotter produces the error code in the middle of the Pacific that the manual does not address. The service team is the infrastructure that the offshore sailing life depends on in the way that the offshore sailing life depends on the weather routing and the provisioning, invisibly, completely, and with the specific urgency of the problem that the three hundred miles from the nearest marina produces when it arrives.
The Lagoon service network is global. The dealers in Cannes represented the countries and the regions and the oceans that the Naora circumnavigation passes through, the Mediterranean dealers, the Caribbean dealers, the Indian Ocean connections, the Pacific network. Every ocean chapter of the Naora route has the Lagoon service infrastructure behind it. This is not the incidental benefit of the brand partnership. It is the operational foundation of the five-year programme. Discovery needs the service network that can reach the boat wherever the circumnavigation has taken it.
The Cannes show was the room where that network was assembled in the same place at the same time and where the confirmation that the network is as complete as the route requires was made in person rather than on the specification sheet.
Why Lagoon Is the Right Choice for the Offshore Sailing Life
| What the offshore sailing life requires | What the Lagoon range delivers |
|---|---|
| Platform stability for the long passage | Catamaran hull architecture that reduces motion significantly versus the monohull |
| Livability for the extended duration | The interior volume and the deck space that the offshore sailing life for twelve people requires across multiple weeks |
| Service infrastructure globally | Dealers and service teams across every ocean the circumnavigation covers |
| Owner and crew feedback incorporated | Range developed directly from the offshore sailing community’s experience — the Lagoon 47 is the most recent expression |
| The flagship capability | The Eighty 2 at the summit of the range — the proof that the offshore catamaran can be the full offshore sailing life at the largest scale |
| The range for every chapter | 38 to Eighty 2 — the range that serves the first catamaran owner and the circumnavigation programme in the same brand family |
What Cannes Confirmed
The Cannes Yachting Festival is the show that the offshore sailing industry uses to confirm the direction it is heading. What Cannes 2026 confirmed for Naora is the direction we have already been heading: the offshore catamaran as the vessel of the serious offshore sailing life, and Lagoon as the brand that has been building the offshore catamaran with the consistency and the depth and the service infrastructure that the five-year circumnavigation requires.
We have been in the offshore sailing life for twenty-five years. We know what the offshore sailing vessel requires from the experience of the person who has been in the conditions that reveal what the vessel is made of. The Lagoon range and the people who build it and support it and sell it and service it around the world, is the range that reveals what it is made of in the conditions that matter. Port Canto in September confirmed this in the specific way that being with the right people around the right boats always confirms what the specification sheet was already saying: the boat is good and the people behind the boat are better.
We came back from Cannes with the same confidence in the partnership that we arrived with and with the additional confirmation that the global Lagoon dealer and service network is the network that the Naora circumnavigation can depend on from Bodrum in May 2027 to Bodrum in January 2032. Every ocean. Every chapter. Every anchorage where the service call might need to happen. The network is there. We saw it in Cannes.
