The Website That Did Not Exist Yet: Our First Vision for naora.world

The first conversation about the website was not a technical conversation. It was not about platforms or CMS systems or page speed or SEO architecture. It was the conversation about feeling, the specific quality of the experience that the person who arrives at naora.world for the first time should have in the first thirty seconds of being there. We had the domain. We did not have the website.

Before we could build the website we needed to agree on what the website was supposed to do to the person it was built for, and this agreement had to come before the technical decisions because the technical decisions need to serve the feeling rather than determine it.

The person who finds naora.world finds it in one of two ways: the deliberate search of the person who has heard about Naora from someone who has been on a leg or from the Circle and who is coming to the website to understand what they have been told, or the accidental discovery of the person who was searching for something adjacent and arrived at Naora without the prior context.

Both versions of this person deserve the same first experience: the immediate sense that they have found something specific and serious and different from the category of experience they were probably expecting, delivered in the form that does not need to announce its quality because the quality is present in the way the thing looks and reads and moves.

What the Website Should Not Do

We were as clear about what the website should not do as about what it should. It should not look like a sailing holiday website, the stock photography of the happy couple on the charter deck, the bullet-pointed list of included activities, the call to action that pressures the booking with the scarcity of the remaining availability. It should not look like the luxury travel brand website that performs exclusivity through the visual language of the aspirational lifestyle rather than the substance of the experience.

It should not feel like it was made to convert visitors into customers in the transactional sense of the word. The Naora conversation begins with the Calendly call, not with the booking button.

What the website should do is produce the specific recognition in the right person: the feeling that the website is speaking to them directly and accurately and that the thing being described is the thing they have been looking for without knowing the name of it until now. This is a high standard for a website and it requires the writing to do the work that the design cannot do alone.

The design creates the first impression. The writing creates the conviction. We built the website around this principle. The Calendly link is not the call to action. It is the invitation to the conversation that the article has made the reader ready for.
