The Honeymoon That Nobody Else Has Had

The Honeymoon That Nobody Else Has Had

The Maldives honeymoon is perfect. The overwater villa, the house reef, the sunset dhoni cruise, the spa, the restaurants: all of it is genuinely beautiful and genuinely luxurious and genuinely the same experience that two hundred thousand couples have had before you in the same bungalow over the same reef eating the same sunset menu. This is not a criticism.

The Maldives honeymoon delivers exactly what it promises and what it promises is what the majority of couples planning a honeymoon want. The question is whether what it promises is what you want, or whether what you want is something that no resort has been built to provide because what you want requires the specific freedom that a resort’s infrastructure does not allow.

The Bluewater Private honeymoon on the Eighty2 is not for everyone. It is for the couple for whom the resort’s management of the experience is the problem rather than the solution: who want to be somewhere without a programme, who want the chef cooking for two people rather than the restaurant serving fifty, who want the anchorage where the boat is the only boat rather than the reef where the snorkelling guide is managing four couples simultaneously.

What Two Weeks on the Eighty2 Looks Like

The chef prepares three meals a day from the local markets of whatever port the expedition has reached and from what Sven brings back from the morning spearfishing. The meals are for two people, which means the chef’s full creativity and attention goes to two plates rather than twelve: the freshest version of whatever the morning’s market visit produced, prepared with the specific technique that the chef has developed across the years of the voyage, served at the afterdeck table with the anchorage behind it and the specific quality of the evening light that the bay the captain chose at dawn produces at sunset.

The diving is organised for two people: the briefing for the specific site, the equipment from the onboard compressor, Sven, Ludo or Céline leading the dive at the outer wall of the Tuamotu atoll or the Red Sea offshore reef or wherever the expedition has reached by the time the couple comes aboard.

The anchorages are chosen with the couple’s interests informing the selection within the conditions that the captain reads each morning. The route is the expedition route, which means the Eighty2 is where it is because the five-year circumnavigation has brought it there, and the places it has brought it to are among the finest places on earth.

The Privacy of the Only Boat in the Bay

The most specific thing the Bluewater Private honeymoon provides that no resort provides is the bay where the boat is the only boat. Not a curated private beach with the resort’s infrastructure just behind the treeline. An actual bay, accessible only to a self-sufficient vessel with the capability to anchor in open water far from any port, where the two people on the boat are the only people in the bay and the sound they hear is the sound of the water against the hull and whatever the specific wildlife of that specific place produces at that specific time of year.

This is the privacy that the resort industry cannot replicate because it requires the absence of the infrastructure that the resort requires to function. The Eighty2 is self-sufficient: the watermaker provides fresh water, the compressor provides air, the fishing line provides protein, the solar and wind provide power. The absence of infrastructure is not a limitation. It is the condition that makes the privacy possible. The honeymoon in the bay where no one else is is the honeymoon that the resort architecture structurally prevents. The Bluewater Private is how it becomes available.
